At Berkshire Counselling Service we understand how difficult life can be at times. Changes in circumstances and life stages can result in emotional, physical and behavioural changes.
Some people have enough support around them but our modern fast moving world means that this is not the case for many.
Loneliness, anxiety and depression are more common than they were. Some problems relate to earlier life experiences such as loss, family separations, illness or trauma. Any of these life experiences could lead to an erosion of self-esteem and disturbing or distressing thought patterns.
Some people try to deal with these feelings through alcohol, drugs, risky sexual behaviour and gambling – and these may lead to addictions.
We may not be looking after ourselves well enough, we may be experiencing stress, or suffer from eating disorders or urges to self-harm. As a result relationships both personal and at work can suffer, compounding the difficulties.
individual counselling can be either short-term, where you might wish to set a fixed number of sessions with your counsellor, or longer term which might be open-ended where deeper issues can be addressed.
Relationships are affected by life events, stressful jobs, difficulties with children, partners changing over the years, the discovery of an affair. Many marriages and partnerships experience difficulties at some point.

Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through counselling and treatment, we are able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.
Relationship counselling can be beneficial to couples who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection, in all stages of their relationship. Therapy sessions are held with both partners and is a supportive place to discuss issues and solutions to better strengthen your relationship.
