I have worked for over 30 years as a therapist, privately and in the NHS, Education and EAP sectors. Primarily I work with individuals from a Psychodynamic base, but use many skills as appropriate to the needs of the client. I have run Stress management and relaxation groups within the NHS and privately for many years. I graduated in a Social Sciences degree in 1976 and for some years worked as a Probation Officer before training as a therapist at the Tavistock Clinic in Psychodynamic Pychoanalysis and later as a Supervisor at the Society of Analytic Psychology. I am an accredited member of BACP. I worked for a WPF affiliate as a group supervisor for many years. I set up a counselling service in a local private school and have many years of experience working with young people and staff.
The most important part of my work is creating a good working relationship with the people I see. As well as bringing a wealth of professional experience I believe that I provide an environment where we can tackle the pain and struggle of life events through compassion, attentive listening and where necessary encouragement towards change. I believe that everyone matters and therapy provides an opportunity to have a deeper understanding of oneself and the roles we play in our relationships.
Educated in Reading and London I initially enjoyed a number of different work environments and travel. I trained in social work as a mature student joining the Probation Service. I added a training in youth counselling and when I left the Probation Service I set up in private practice to provide counselling for individuals. During that time I also trained in family mediation helping couples resolve issues relating to their children after marital breakdown. I have counselled within a variety of different settings: youth counselling agency, an AIDS support centre, Doctor’s Surgery and running stress management courses in health and education environments in Berkshire. For some years I supervised a group of counsellors within a WPF Counselling Centre. In 2000 I trained in Sexuality and Relationship Psychotherapy gaining an MSc. I have recently relocated to a village in North Hampshire where I have a small private practice seeing individuals and couples.
My work is informed by a number of different modalities, the most important focus being on the client and issue/s they bring. I am on the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy Register (BACP) and am accredited with the College of Sexuality and Relationship Therapists AccCOSRT(Sen).
After obtaining my initial counselling qualification from Reading University in 2000 I worked for the NHS providing counselling in GP surgeries as well as in private practice.
In 2010 I undertook a second training in psychotherapy and since retiring from the NHS in 2017 I have worked solely in private practice. I am also a qualified supervisor.
I have over thirty years of experience and training in meditation and mindfulness and run 10 week courses as well as use these skills in one to one therapy if appropriate.
I am an accredited member of BACP.
